- Q1. GPS fix for first time normally might take up to 10 minutes?
- Yes, the GPS system will need up to 10 minutes to get its first location fix for the first time use on earth. It is recommended to get the first GPS fix under an open sky to speed up the process. If you use
the InTell GPS device often, the next fix will be much quicker, often less than 3 minute after the device is turned on.
- Q2. When the GPS have signal reception problem what can you do ?
- You may not know the GPS antenna needs to be flipped out for better reception,. we realize that lots of customers/user forget to flip up the GPS antenna to 90 degree. The best GPS reception is when the
GPS antenna is parallel to the horizon.
Some heat reflection film/tint films are metal coated, and the windshield will block the GPS signals. If your car has the heat reflection windscreen, the you need to buy an external GPS antenna. To check if it is
the heat reflection windshield problem, you can try the navigator outside the car and in an open space with plenty of direct view to the sky. This will make sure the device can received the signal properly.
- Q3. If the InTell GPS can't find the signal under clear sky?
- Our InTell GPS can still receive signal even if some of the sky view is blocked, but in some situations, the condition is worse than the lowest minimal needed for GPS positioning. Please make sure the InTell GPS
is not used in blocked by buildings, tress, or heavily tinted windows.
- Q4. How long should I wait for my InTell GPS to find its first position once I take it out of the box?
- If you are stationary and the unit is connected correctly, you should be able to get your first positioning information within about 5 minutes or less. If your vehicle is moving, it will take a longer period of time
– possibly as much as 10 minutes or more depending on environmental conditions. For the first time you use the GPS navigator out of the box, it might take up to 30 minutes to find its first position. In order to
speed up the first GPS position time, please stay stationary under the clear view of the sky. You should be outside of a building, the unit is in clear view of the sky, and you are not surrounded by tall trees
and buildings.
- Q5. What should I check for if I do not get a good satellite signal and my InTell GPS doesn't know where I am?
- Do you have a clear view of the sky? You should be outside of a building, the unit is in clear view of the sky, and you are not surrounded by tall trees and buildings. You could check these items as well:
- Is the integrated antenna turned up?
- Does my windshield have some special coating which prevents satellite signals to go through? If so, using an external antenna will fix this issue.
- Have I traveled a long distance with my unit turned off? In that case my receiver will take longer than usual to locate itself, up to 10 or 15 minutes.
- Q6. How can I get the fastest and best possible satellite signal with my InTell GPS?
-
- Flip up the integrated antenna.
- Use outside of garage, parking structure, building.
- ensure a clear view of the sky: no tall buildings, trees, tunnel.
- Use an external antenna if your windshield has special metal-coating
- Q7. What other factors affect the accuracy of my unit?
- Other factors limiting the accuracy of GPS include atmospheric distortion. Increased atmospheric distortion can be caused by periods of high solar flux/activity.
- Q8. Can I use an external GPS antenna with my InTell GPS? How do I install it?
- Yes, simply plug the external GPS antenna into the MMCX type connector, ensure that the magnetic part of the external GPS antenna is applied to a metallic surface of your car roof in view of the sky and you
are set to go. You can contact your local dealers to buy the external GPS antenna for InTell Navigators
